Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

If testosterone production increases too much, then women are often likely to get Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, known as PCOS.

It is the surplus testosterone levels that cause the male symptoms of enlarged ovaries, excess body hair, acne, weight gain around the middle and having very few periods or none.

The most common places of excess hair are often on the face and breasts.

Women who have PCOS often find they have mood swings. If left undiagnosed or untreated, PCOS can lead to difficulty with conception.

A 17-year-old came to us with PCOS and was very concerned that she wouldn’t be able to conceive due to her lack of periods. By doing the Metabolic Weight Loss Programme she started having regular periods*.

High insulin levels mean higher cortisol levels. Cortisol and insulin are both fat storage hormones and when their levels are too high can cause weight problems, for example too much insulin leads to accumulating more abdominal fat.

With the Metabolic Weight Loss Programme, we have a lot of success with those who have PCOS, as one of the factors we are dealing with is using specific foods with the aim of lowering insulin levels.

This in turn can help those who are struggling with problems concerning weight loss.
